Bring It Up Until You Win

“'You bring it up enough times until you win, that's all I'm saying' Councilman Tom McGee said regarding putting the question of switching to an appointed rather than an elected Town Administrator of this fall's ballot for the third time." -Woonsocket Call article 7/29/2018

I think Town Council member #McGee may be on to something. Personally, I don’t have an issue with offering a question to voters more than once *if* the second proposal offers new language in order to address concerns expressed by voters the first time around. With respect to this question however, the language continues to fall short and fails to address the concerns expressed by those who voted against it previously. Several of the other charter proposals to be on the ballot in the fall will negate or dilute #Charter amendments just approved by voters in 2014.

Although I have been in favor of switching to an appointed Town #Administrator for some time, I will definitely be voting to “REJECT” this ballot question. In future posts I will explain my reasons for voting against this question. The details are critical; they determine how decisions are made that affect your tax dollars and your rights. Stay tuned in the fall…Look for my posts about the most critical LOCAL #ballot questions. I will highlight in plain language the effects of the proposed charter changes. I’ll apply fact-based analysis and invite discussion. In November, you the voters of North Smithfield will decide what you think is best for the future of this town. In the meantime, please take a few minutes to read the Woonsocket Call article linked above.
