Lowering Commercial and Tangible Tax Rates?

North Smithfield Town Administrator Ezovski is recommending commercial and tangible tax rates be lowered. If those tax rates are lowered the town loses tax revenue and the burden falls on homeowners to make up for the lost tax revenue. All homeowners will be required to pay more than they should, in order to cover the loss of revenue from the reduction of those tax rates. The proposed reduction in the tangible tax rate is basically a tax cut gift to National Grid (the Town’s largest tangibles taxpayer). Personally, I have no desire to have the tax bill on my house increase so that National Grid can pay less in town taxes. I certainly hope the Town Council refuses to follow the Administrator’s recommendation.

Please consider contacting the town council members and urge them not to approve the Administrator’s recommendation to lower the tangible and commercial tax rates. Spread the word and encourage your neighbors and friends to do the same. The Public hearing on the town budget and proposed tax rate reductions is scheduled for this coming Monday night at 6:45PM. The meeting is being held at the North Smithfield Middle School. If you are available to attend please consider doing so.
Town Council members can be reached via the Town Website. Simply click on each member’s name and send each one a message.
UPDATE 12-17-2019: Several members of the Town Council do not use their Town E-Mail addresses, Claire O'Hara and Paul Vadenais. Paul Zwolenski does.
