Wave of Resignations a Red Flag

Multiple midterm #resignations from town boards within a short period of time are uncommon.

Unfortunately over the last six weeks three members of the North Smithfield #Planning #Board have submitted letters of resignation; Dr. Lucien Benoit resigned on September 7th, Mr. Dean #Naylor resigned on September 17th, and Mr. Scott Lentz resigned on October 16th.

Budget Committee members Kim #Alves and Matt #Dwyer resigned simultaneously from the Budget Committee in 2017 several months before this page was created. Mr. Al #Puccetti also left the #Budget Committee a short time later.

The link below will give access to the letters submitted by these individuals. Letters describe the events which lead to the resignations. Dr. #Benoit and Mr. #Lentz served on multiple committees and their letters indicate they have resigned from all Town committees. I’ve also attached a link to Mr. Lentz’s last letter to the Town Council regarding action on an ordinance under consideration at the time of his #resignation.

The Planning Board members all had common sense, in depth knowledge of planning and sharp analytical skills. All three Budget #Committee members had degrees in accounting and many years working in the field. They did a great job looking out for the taxpayers; they worked hard and didn’t rubber stamp any requests.

The town benefited greatly from the expertise and backgrounds of these individuals. I’ve interacted with all of these folks over the years and I valued the expertise they possessed. I offer sincere thanks for the countless hours they spent working on behalf of town residents.
